Student Franchise Opportunity

Overview

Northwest Missouri State University partnered with DocuLock LLC® in 2023 to offer an amazing franchise opportunity. Each year, students can compete for the possibility to own a DocuLock LLC® franchise. The winner receives a franchise with the franchise fee of $43,500 waived in perpetuity. In 2025, Doculock LLC® added the additional benefits of gifting a starter scanner and laptop for the winner to use for the first six months at no charge! Below are some additional details about this opportunity.

• The student must be graduating within the current academic semester
• The student must be enrolled in the Strategy & Decision-Making course
• The student must follow the application process outlined within the course
• The student will be allowed to choose any location for their business, provided the franchise territory is available
• All franchises awarded will be new start-ups
• All student franchisees will receive no-cost assistance with starting their business through the Small Business Development Center
• Only one franchise award is guaranteed each semester
• The franchisee will be announced at the end of each semester during a public event
• While the franchise fee is waived for the student, there will be additional expenditures necessary that are common with starting a business that will be the sole responsibility of the student. Equipment expenses will cost the student approximately $20,000.

What does it mean to own a franchise?

According to the Federal Trade Commission, being a franchise owner enables you access to a format or system developed by the franchisor for a specific number of years and assistance. For example, the franchisor may provide you with help in finding a location for your outlet; initial training and operating manual; and advice on management, marketing and personnel. Essentially, a franchise has the advantages of already having a proven concept and a footprint to follow.
